Clutches

The clutch is one of the most important components to driving a vehicle. It is made up of three main parts: the clutch plate, the pressure plate and the flywheel & its job is to connect the engine and the gearbox in cars with a manual transmission, which allows the car to drive.

There are signs to suggest your clutch may be wearing out and needing a replacement:

• Difficulty shifting gear

• The clutch is sticking, spongy, vibrating or loose when pressed

• 'Slipping' clutch, causing a momentary loss of acceleration

There are also ways to extend the lifespan of your clutch:

• Avoid resting your foot on the clutch

• Change gears quick and decisively

• Avoid using your clutch as a brake
